JFK Lights: Lighting Up the Community with a Cause

JFK Lights is an annual Christmas light display in Palmerston North, now in its 8th spectacular year. Founded by Hamish Price at just 19 years old, the display has grown into the city’s largest and most beloved holiday attraction, spanning five houses with dazzling lights, inflatables, and themed decorations. Each year, the display draws over 7,000 visitors who come to experience the magic of Christmas brought to life by a passionate team of volunteers, all under the age of 30.

This year, JFK Lights will feature a repurposed BK117 helicopter, transformed into a Christmas light extravaganza, to highlight our fundraising goal for the Grassroots Rescue Helicopter. This vital service, provided by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, plays a crucial role in saving lives and supporting communities across the region.

Throughout December, JFK Lights will host three sausage sizzles with the support of the QEC Leo's Club to help raise funds for this essential service. By donating to the Grassroots Rescue Helicopter, visitors can help ensure that the helicopter remains equipped and ready to respond to emergencies, providing lifesaving care to those in need.

About this service: The Grassroots Trust Rescue Helicopter is a fully-fledged air emergency medical service that services the Manawatu and Whanganui region in the North Island. It brings life-saving equipment and rescue personnel directly to patients, 24/7, 365 days a year, and is staffed by an amazing & experienced crew of Critical Care Flight Paramedics (CCFP), Crewmen and Pilots. Donations from fundraising go towards the operational costs, which helps ensure the rescue helicopter can continue to carry out life-saving missions, whenever and wherever needed.
