I'm fundraising for the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter
What We’re Doing and Why
On 12 March, our beautiful daughter Sarie Morton passed away after a tragic accident. She was surrounded by her closest family and friends in our local park. In those critical moments, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Waikato responded with incredible dedication, sending three helicopters to the scene and doing absolutely everything possible to save her. Their presence brought us reassurance that Sarie was in the very best hands.
Emergency services like Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter are essential. Without them, communities face chaos, lack of specialist skills, and even more heartbreak. As a mum now part of a club no one ever wants to join, I feel compelled to honour Sarie by supporting the service that tried so hard to bring her home to us.
We are fundraising to give back to the Westpac Helicopter team, whose work is always needed and often life‑saving.
Across our community, several events are taking place:
- Fonterra Morrinsville — Hosting a bake sale to raise funds.
- United Matamata Squash Club — A bright‑colours club night with donation opportunities.
- Matamata College — Holding a mufti day to help create a beautiful memorial space at school where students can visit and remember Sarie.

About this service: The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter is a fully-fledged air emergency medical service that services the whole of the Waikato region, including the Coromandel and the King Country. It brings life-saving equipment and rescue personnel directly to patients, 24/7, 365 days a year, and is staffed by an amazing & experienced crew of Critical Care Flight Paramedics (CCFP), Air Crew Officers and Pilots. Donations from fundraising go towards the operational costs, which helps ensure the rescue helicopter can continue to carry out life-saving missions, whenever and wherever needed.
